Volunteering with SocIT Foundation

Volunteering is a very rewarding activity. If you would like to volunteer your skills to serve society, please do join the #SocIT group at our Mobilize forum (https://socit.mobilize.io). You can participate with as little as 4 hours a week of your time, which can be after work hours or weekends. The registration form lists a large number of skills in the general IT space that lakhs of people will find very familiar and comforting.

Volunteering is entirely non-financial – you won’t be asked to donate any money (though if you would like to, SocIT Foundation is a registered tax-exempt trust). We, at SocIT, believe that your skills are a lot more valuable and can do more good than just a monetary contribution can.

What work will I need to do?

You can volunteer to take on one of the many roles that a normal software project involves – product management, coding, QA, documentation, project management, deployment, UX design, …. – you get the idea. This role does not have to match what your day job is – it all depends on what skills you want to contribute and what you want to work on. Entirely your choice and driven by your passion.

Once you pick up a role and some tasks to go with that, you will need to coordinate with the other volunteer team members so that we can produce and deliver a good project. Take on only as much as you can be sure you can complete.

In case you find that you are stuck in some unexpected work or personal situation and unable to continue the contribution at some time, we understand! This is not a job where someone will come after you or pester you. But please do communicate and keep everyone updated so that the others don’t find themselves stuck where they depend on your work. In short, no pressure – come and enjoy the work.

How do I sign up?

Go on to https://socit.mobilize.io/ and complete the registration, indicating the skills that you want to give to society. Easy!

Do I get paid for volunteering?

No. Your work on these projects are a labour of love and shows your passion. There might be some goodies that SocIT can afford once in a while for all volunteers – but no promises! Treat this as a way to contribute to society rather than earn from it.
